This is a distinctive house style appearing in many Key West neighborhoods.

While it has been given its own designation by previous authors, it’s in fact a taller cousin of the shotgun house. Additional living space is frequently attached later with one or more saw tooth arranged gabled rooms. Through the years this structure has comfortably housed many Key West families. The upper level has standup headroom near its center, and with the space expanding addition of gabled dormers, a geometrically interesting upper level room results. During the recent renovation periods, creative new owners have opened up portions of the upper level to provide vaulted ceilings for lower rooms.
