Ask a Conch about historical homes and chances are he will begin describing the two Bahaman houses near the corner of Eaton and Grinnell. None are more uniquely intertwined with early Key West history than these structures disassembled in the Bahamian Abacos and brought here by schooner to their present locations.

Their first owners were Captains Richard Roberts and John Bartlum both descendants of Loyalists who had migrated to the Bahamas after the American Revolution. Beautifully maintained these grand old homes give us some insights into Key West’s earliest period and our seafaring ancestors who were migrating to this new prosperous island. Deep porches run the length of both houses behind square posts that extend from ground to roof.
